BBI has experience in moving from conceptual ideas in the feasibility stage to implementing these in the business development stage. The BBI Team has over 85 years of combined experience in the renewable energy, ethanol, and biotechnology industries. BBI International uses its experience to prepare accurate, unbiased and up-to-date technical reports and business plans for our clients.
BBI has extensive experience in conducting feasibility studies for biofuels projects. BBI has completed feasibility studies for ethanol production from many feedstocks including corn, sugarcane molasses, grain sorghum, barley, wheat, potato waste, and cellulosic feedstocks. We have completed studies in nearly every state in the U.S. and we have completed as well as Canada and Mexico. Many of these studies included the evaluation of co-generation opportunities and co-location with existing industrial facilities.
We have evaluated the integration of anaerobic digestion of feedlot manure with ethanol plants in California and Canada. We have completed a biomass to energy study encompassing Northern California and Southern Oregon for the OreCal RC&D. We have also completed a biomass resource assessment and biomass ethanol feasibility study for the Oregon Energy Office. BBI International has experience with biodiesel and has completed extensive biodiesel and oilseed extraction studies in Pennsylvania and Washington.
BBI also has experience in evaluating the impacts of regulations and government policy on bioenergy businesses. We have analyzed policy impacts and policy options for REDDI of Pennsylvania (biodiesel), the Missouri Corn Growers (ethanol) and other groups and organizations. BBI also evaluated the return on investment for various state incentives. These studies have been national and state-focused in scope.
BBI has extensive experience in evaluating markets for biofuels and new biobased products. A good understanding of the historic, current and potential future markets is critical to the success of a proposed project. All of BBI’s feasibility studies include a detailed market analysis. BBI has extensive experience in evaluating major transportation fuel markets. We have evaluated these markets in every part of the country. Our studies include historic, current and projections for future market demand and pricing for products and coproducts. We evaluate local, regional and national markets in our analyses. BBI also has the capability to evaluate specialized new products and coproducts. We are familiar with the specialized niche markets that comprise much of the current biodiesel market. We have completed market analyses for startup and existing companies.
BBI has also conducted economic impact studies for Illinois, Wisconsin, Kansas, Idaho, Iowa and Hawaii. In these studies we determined the impact the proposed biofuels plant construction and operations would have on the regional and state economy. BBI has evaluated the impact on state balance of trade, value added to agricultural products, increased investment in plant and equipment, job creation and other fiscal impacts due to increased biofuels production within a state.
BBI has extensive experience in identifying potential funding sources. We have worked with many clients to identify an appropriate mix of funding sources (primary debt, subordinated debt, equity and grants). We have the experience needed to identify and evaluate an appropriate and extensive mix of funding sources from private sources, financial institutions, public offerings of stocks and investments, grants, and other sources. We have an experienced banker on our staff who has worked on financing numerous ethanol projects over the last 10 years. We can assist clients in identifying funding sources and in assembling the appropriate documentation needed to secure funds. We also have extensive experience in preparing grant applications, and a good success rate in securing funding from grant programs.
