Established in 2004, our strategic initiative is unique in the ethanol industry in that we are promoting Aboriginal Economic Development; developing relationships with local farmers and First Nations; and committed to bringing about job creation for adjoining communities and First Nations.

Our focus initially, is on the development of the ethanol plant. This first plant will consist of a 150 million litre per annum (40 MMGPY) multi-feed ethanol plant. Once the co-gen operation and ethanol plants are established we will integrate greenhouses, a technical training school and a bio-diesel facility.

FNEDC provides the following services:

Creates partnerships with local communities and businesses as well as investors and First Nations by providing background information regarding the opportunities for and risk involved with the development of bio-fuels.
Develops techno-economic feasibility studies, detailed project reports and business plans for a bio-fuel production, taking into account local factors that may effect the development of bio-fuel plants.
Develops agreements with local farmers and First Nations to supply feedstock to the ethanol plant.  We have a commitment for 100% of the feedstock required for the first ethanol plant, which is to be located in Perth South, Ontario.
Develops agreements with companies to purchase the ethanol. We have letters of commitment to purchase 100% of the entire annual ethanol production of our first plant.
Develops agreements with the appropriate sources for sale of energy and by-products.  We have letters of intent for 100% off-take of by-products

Develops the plant for all of the partners:

  • Engaging the appropriate professionals (e.g. architect, engineer, environmental experts, transportation planners) to produce plans for the plant. We are in an ongoing relationship with BBI Biofuels Canada (the leading ethanol planning authority in North America) and ICM (the leading ethanol plant construction company in North America) and NAC.
  • Determining the most appropriate transportation (mix of road and rail).
  • Ensuring the appropriate permits are in place.
  • Tendering the construction of the plant.
  • Selecting the contractor to build the plant.
  • Developing a contract that is fair and ensures adequate guarantees of work performance, with inclusion of local and First Nation personnel wherever possible.
  • Managing the payments based on completion of phases that meet inspection requirements.
  • Managing the financing and cash flow.
  • Providing overall project management and human resource development by ensuring appropriate personnel are on hand at each stage of the plant construction and operation.

Providing start-up and long-term management of the plant to ensure its viability. It is important that the appropriate infra-structure be put in place to protect the company’s assets and allow for future growth as the demand for ethanol increases. We ensure the following structures and processes are in place:

  • Financial planning and accountability systems, with a certified accountant and with an annual audit of the financial statement.
  • Human resource systems including recruitment, compensation, performance appraisal and staff development.
  • Quality control system to ensure that the production of bio-fuels is environmentally positive and the quality of the product is maintained.
Provide management and technical training and development in order to build capacity and support the plant in ultimately having significant local and Aboriginal management and staff.
Develop strategic partnerships with other local businesses to bring about multiple use of energy and other natural resources for the environmental and economic benefit of all parties.
